2017 LANTOS HUMAN RIGHTS PRIZE RECIPIENT
Father Patrick Desbois
Father Patrick Desbois, President and Founder of the international human rights organization Yahad-In Unum (YIU), was recognized as the 2017 Lantos Prize recipient for his unparalleled work in uncovering the lost stories of over one million victims of the “Holocaust by Bullets” period of World War II, as well as his continuing fight against antisemitism and genocide throughout the world.
A renowned researcher, educator, and human rights activist, Father Desbois founded YIU for the purpose of finding sites of Jewish mass executions during the Holocaust. He carried out an investigation into the Holocaust that lasted over a decade and he continues to offer counsel to those seeking to combat antisemitism.
The Lantos Human Rights Prize was awarded to Father Desbois on October 26, 2017 in Washington, DC. Speakers at the ceremony included Congressman Jim McGovern and Congressman Randy Hultgren, co-chairs of the U.S. Congress’ Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission.
